My family recently stayed at the Park Inn on Maingate Lane in Orlando, Florida and had an awesome visit! If you are considering Orlando as a vacation destination and looking for a great place to stay, Park Inn offers outstanding amenities.

The window of our room faced the Walt Disney properties. At night, we settled in to an amazing view of dazzling fireworks from several of the parks. The hotel is tucked in behind the street with a clear view. Animal Kingdom is the closest park and the fireworks are beautiful!

The room

Room prices vary, of course, but the rates are reasonable! Our room was clean, had a refrigerator, and included free wireless Internet access. The large garden tub was comforting after a tiring day of walking in the park and the tile floors added a nice touch.

The castle is incredible! I was stunned by the magnitude and reality of the castle and surrounding grounds. My family arrived an hour early to find a crowd of people already storming the castle gates. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament is the #1 dinner attraction in North America.

The castle doors open for dinner seventy-five minutes before show time. Arrive early as seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Once inside the ‘Hall of Arms’, check out the intriguing artifacts, visit the amazing gift shop, walk through the medieval torture museum, grab a refreshing drink at the bar, do a jig on the dance floor, and witness a knighting ceremony.

Call of the Trumpets

At the sound of the trumpets in the great hall, all the Lords and Ladies are gathered together to enter the banquet hall for the grand feast! Let the Games Begin

The suspense builds as the tournament commences. The king and other royal family members attend and sit high on their thrones to watch the knights compete. The banquet hall is divided into six colors, representing different cities within the kingdom.

The crowd roars as blades clash and wood splinters during non-stop arena action

We were seated in the red knight section and of course, he was awesome and won the battle! Out of the many categories in the competition, jousting was my favorite. The snap of the stick and flying splinters were very realistic and I was afraid that somebody was going to lose more than an eye with that big stick!

Exhibitions

These noble knights battle for honor and king while the crowd cheers them to victory!

In addition to the tournament, there are demonstrations of stunning horsemanship, a falcon exhibit, and sword fighting. Flying sparks and loud noise fill the banquet hall at the clash of the great swords. Awesome!

Medieval Times Dinner &Tournament was highly entertaining with excellent customer service, and I certainly left very full and smiling! That is one big band! How did they get here?!

Watching grand parades on television such as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Rose Parade, Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, and Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade is a tradition in our home. While the incredible bands march and perform, my thoughts run wild as I wonder how these large band groups of 400 + travel across the country to the various parade sites.

Buses can be cramped and chaotic!

The Bus 

A bus holds approximately forty-one people. A group of 400 band members, along with chaperones and band directors, would require about eleven buses with an average travel time of two days. How many drivers would such a trip require and does the school provide them? I can imagine the craziness of the entire travel group getting on and off the buses for pit stops at McDonalds, bathroom breaks, food, and the usual high jinks. Not to mention the thought of arranging hotel accommodations and unloading suit cases.

A quicker trip and room to move

Flying High

Without a doubt, flying is the best option! However, I have personally booked flights for my family of sixteen and it is not an easy task. The arrangements take hours and when finally finished, I hope there are not any changes…oh my. The thought of booking 400 students is inconceivable.

Graduation Parties at Universal Orlando Resort

Universal Studios Florida™ and Universal’s Islands of Adventure™ go into lock down mode as they host two fabulous graduation parties: Gradventure for middle school students and Grad Bash for high school seniors. Both parks are open for the events and students move safely between parks with a reserved cross over path. Tickets are limited and sell out quickly!

Gradventure will turn your teen upside down with epic DJs, rides and entertainment

Gradventure: May 5, 12, & 19, 2017 7:00 p.m. to midnight

Middle school students across the country eagerly arrive at Universal Orlando Resort™ to celebrate graduation! Students have access to Universal Studios Florida™ AND Universal’s Islands of Adventure™with lots of street entertainment and various DJ”s to keep the party hopping throughout the two parks! Admission includes a voucher for dinner that can be used like cash in the park restaurants.

Seniors will dance the night away to the hottest live entertainment or bring down the house with Coca-Cola karaoke!

Grad Bash: April 7, 21, 28, & 29, 2017 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

High School seniors converge on Universal Studios Florida™ AND Universal’s Islands of Adventure™. The party hosts street entertainment, DJs, a live concert with one of today’s hottest acts, Coca-Cola karaoke, multiple dance zones, and much more! Party with your best high school buddies while enjoying thrilling rides and attractions.

Who can attend?

Students and chaperones of the attending school are welcome to attend. Outside guests will not be permitted.

Added security keeps the focus on fun (and gives parents peace of mind!)

Is it safe?

An extensive security check is required for all participants including metal detectors and bag/pocket checks. Alcohol, illegal drugs, cigarettes, e cigarettes, tobacco items, weapons, chains, spiked collars and belts, or any accessories that may be used as weapons are not allowed. Extra security is visible throughout the events.

Students and chaperones can celebrate the end of a successful year together with Universal’s Grad Bash and Gradventure

Chaperones

Chaperones are treated as VIP’s with special extras! They will receive a Universal Express Pass which allows them to skip regular participating ride lines and visit chaperone-only lounges for breaks, snacks, and drinks. Grad Bash chaperones also receive a complimentary breakfast and can participate in giveaways and games throughout the night.

I well remember our first trip to Manhattan, New York about five years ago. My family stayed on Times Square and we had a fantastic time seeing the sights during a walking tour of the surrounding area. Nearing the Broadway theatre district, I found myself thinking about incredible entertainers like Angela Lansbury, Judy Garland, and Carol Burnett who had all performed in the iconic theatres and been honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

These amazing performers spent countless hours in music, voice, and theatre lessons and many credit their mentors for their successful careers and awards. Today, your budding entertainer can also be exposed to fabulous mentors and creative instruction without having to relocate to ‘The City That Never Sleeps’!

Broadway Workshop has been offered since 2007 to young people ages 9-18. Directed by Marc Tumminelli, director of Broadway Workshop New York, these five-day musical theatre camps are led by professional Broadway stars, casting directors, and agents. The next Broadway Workshop Signature Camp will be held at the Calvin Gilmore Theater in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2017. This 2200-seat, luxurious theater is complete with state of the art lighting, sound, and special effects. The theater is also home to ‘The Carolina Opry’, which boasts over 8,000 performances and has run longer than any show in Broadway history.

The culmination and highlight of the week is the moment when students take center stage in a show stopper performance on the final night of camp. The memories will last a lifetime along with an increase in entertainment knowledge, self-confidence, and industry friends plus a t-shirt to prove it!
