We don’t like to toot our own horn, but whooo…whooo…what an event we have in store for you; a beautiful destination with amazing things to do. We have wrapped many of them in a Homeschool Chattanooga Week. This event captures the beauty of geography, the history of the region and of course some fun and exciting adventures along the way.

Join the Odyssey

Day 1

  • Welcome to Chattanooga!  Check in at the GTO designated registration desk and let us know you arrived safely!
  • Our first day together starts at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum to experience a “moving museum” of sights and sounds associated with a slower-paced era when railroad travel was a way of life.  All aboard!
  • We’ll visit the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo Terminal Station where “nothing could be finer” than seeing the 1909 terminal station that houses several gift shops, the Glen Miller Formal Gardens and new restaurants.  Don’t miss the Grand Dome lobby, the world’s largest free-standing brick dome building
  • Next, we’ll head to the newest downtown attraction, the Songbirds Guitar Museum at the Choo Choo complex.  This one of a kind collection tells the stories of music and life in the 1950s – 1970s.  We’ll be immersed in a display worth millions and enjoy a unique perspective into America’s music culture
  • Let’s stay on track with a visit to Warehouse Row for a premier shopping experience steeped in railroad history

Day 2

  • Our day begins with the stunning vistas of Lookout Mountain as we head down – way down to  Ruby Falls, a 145’ waterfall located 1,120 feet below the surface of Lookout Mountain
  • Get ready for a breathtaking experience at the world-famous Rock City Gardens.  Enjoy lunch at the Big Rock Café, followed by a tour of Rock City, a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens and panoramic views of 7 states

Day 3

  • Our third day together starts with a stop at Bessie Smith Cultural Center, which celebrates the life of the local iconic singer known as the “Empress of the Blues”
  • Heading to the Bluff View Art District, we’ll enjoy some time in this charming, turn of the century neighborhood, boasting an art gallery, sculpture garden, coffeehouse and bakery  We’ll then tour the Hunter Museum of American Art with the largest collection of American Art east of the Mississippi River.
  • Next, we’ll enjoy a taste of southern hospitality with a relaxing lunch cruise aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat.  Enjoy the beauty of the river and breathtaking views while enjoying a scrumptious lunch
  • Our afternoon ends with a visit to the Tennessee Aquarium and 3D IMAX theater , where we’ll be immersed in both fresh and saltwater life

Day 4

  • Today we’ll start at the International Towing Museum, an exhibit highlighting beautifully restored antique tow trucks and recovery equipment dating back to 1916
  • Next is a choice of the Creative Discovery Museum (great for ages 2-11) OR the Challenger Center Space Program, an outstanding choice for anyone in grades K-8
  • As we move along, we’ll stop at the Second Presbyterian Church, an historic and beautiful church, founded after the Civil War in 1871 by northern soldiers who relocated to Chattanooga after serving here
  • Finally, we will head to Coolidge Park on the north shore, named in honor of local citizen Charles Coolidge, a World War II Medal of Honor recipient.   Hop on to an antique 1895 Dentzel Carousel with 50 hand-carved and painted animals, or stroll the park and explore the shops.  Enjoy a walk along the world’s longest pedestrian bridge, the Walnut Street Bridge– connecting the north and south shores of the Tennessee river

Day 5

  • Our final day together starts at Chattanooga Zoo  with an education program designed to engage and excite- fun for the entire family
  • A visit to Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park will bring our odyssey to a close while we engage with the past and commemorate our history
