History’s Hidden Gems

This little slice of Northern Virginia is big on history.  Groups who enjoy digging into an area’s past will find a treasure trove of interesting bits here.

For example, just outside the gates of Quantico sits an impressive, towering structure.  It’s the National Museum of the Marine Corps and it draws nearly a half-million visitors each year.

The National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program tells the story of resistance against the institution of slavery at three local sites.

Outrageous Adventure

Ever wanted to learn to sail a boat?  Test your skills at the Northern Virginia Sailing School, tucked into the marina at beautiful Leesylvania State Park.

Then, when you’re ready for more than just smooth sailing, go vertical.  Vertical Rock Climbing and Fitness Center offers indoor experiences or comprehensive outdoor expeditions in George Washington National Forest.

If you’re the type to stop and read every road marker, a historic trail tour is an ideal adventure. Hike, bike, or kayak through more than 40 miles of trails and 150 historic structures. You can even stay in a rustic cabin once used for spy training!
