Today is National Lighthouse Day
Lighthouses are incredible feats of architecture that have been around since 280 B.C. They help guide ships safely past rocky outcroppings and into safe harbors. They serve as beacons of hope when waters are rough and the path to shore is unclear.
Heck- they’re even the namesake for a blog that “shines” with helpful group travel planning information!😉
Lighthouses have offered serenity and safe passage to travelers for centuries. They are still in use today- although now automated rather than manned. One exception is the Boston Light in the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. It is the only manned lighthouse in the U.S., thanks to a law that was passed in 1989.
