Today we honor the nearly 160,000 Allied troops who landed on the beaches of Normandy, France in 1944 and staged an attack that turned the tide of WWII.
The Battle of Normandy was executed under the codename Operation Overlord and became known as the beginning of the end of World War II.
D-Day is considered one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. Due to the sheer number of troops, ships, and aircraft involved, Operation Overlord required extensive planning but ultimately resulted in liberating Northern France.
Take a moment today to remember D-Day by visiting a veteran, flying the American flag, or simply learning more about this momentous battle that changed the course of history.
